Gary has always felt fiercely competitive with his father, and the announcement of the pregnancy would only exacerbate that feeling.

He performs pull-ups on a bar that is strategically placed to display his six-pack abs in one gratuitous scene, then performs one-armed pull-ups while using the other hand to check his phone. Regular group walks provided these dads with a safe place to talk about their lives and insecurities while also parenting their children as they saw fit. Chris Rock, Thomas Lennon, Rob Huebel, Amir Talai, and occasionally Joe Manganiello made comprised the ensemble, which was a lot of fun. The parent group was a refreshingly interesting bunch of characters in an otherwise conventional movie, and they provided most of the funnier jokes.

Pro: The Coopers 

The Coopers’ chemistry was fun to see, in my opinion. There was the couple Wendy and Gary Cooper, who had been attempting to conceive for some time. One of the funny characters in this movie was without a doubt, Rebel Wilson. Her character’s nearly every utterance was funny, and she genuinely made me laugh several times throughout the film. She accomplished this despite not appearing on screen very frequently. She played Wendy’s assistant, and she was every bit the quirky Rebel Wilson’s characters are known to be.

Con: Crowded & Disconnected

The movie had a plot disconnect which was one of my complaints about it. That is to say, we were simply observing a group of ladies who happened to all become pregnant at the same time. Only a couple ever interacted, which in my opinion made the film seem meaningless. There was no overarching theme or unifying element that tied these narratives together. There was nothing connecting these women, and the sequences where they were all together just felt like a random story about a bunch of strange pregnant women. I think this movie would have been much more interesting if there had been something.

On the few occasions when the filmmakers truly had a chance to defy expectations and tell moving tales—Rosie and Marco’s pregnancy and Wendy’s at the end—they blew it and went the safe route instead.
