Between Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel’s already got a pretty loaded lineup this year. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for the tiniest of heroes! The first trailer for Ant-Man and the Wasp has arrived, and it’s given us a glorious sneak peak at what’s coming up in and outside of the Quantum Realm. We will break down everything we love about the new footage!
Join host, and renowned ant-whisperer, Jessica Chobot, as she puts a microscope over the key Ant-Man and the Wasp moments, big and small. As you may remember, Scott Lang was seen doing the new Ant-Man’s stuff when he was captured during Captain America: Civil War before he was rescued in the end. Judging from the way the FBI is all over Scott and Hank Pym in these clips, it looks like he’s still paying the price for that. We can even hear Evangeline Lilly‘s Hope van Dyne exclaiming that it’s Scott’s fault that they had to hide.
Oh yeah, Scott’s getting big again. And this time, his Giant-Man transformation is even more impressive.
But he may not be the only Goliath around. Laurence Fishburne makes his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in this trailer playing Bill Foster, a former partner of Hank Pym who perhaps is glad he sat out the Civil War film. Seriously, the Civil War comic book was not kind to Bill Foster, and he deserves a lot better than that. Ant-Man and the Wasp trailer also offers us a quick look at Ghost, who might be one of the flick’s main villains.
The lighter tone of the first film appears to be intact and we’re loving the dynamic between Scott and Hope as superhero partners. That being said, we are wondering why Michelle Pfeiffer‘s Janet van Dyne didn’t show up in this trailer. Maybe Marvel is saving the original Wasp for later. However, we may have caught a glimpse of the fantastic voyage to save Jan from the Quantum Realm. We saw a small ship encircled by giant bacteria and viruses which could be the way that Scott and Hope embark on their rescue mission.
It feels like we’ve been waiting forever to see the Wasp to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Joss Whedon almost had Janet van Dyne in the first Avengers movie, but she was left out of the script. And then Wasp was lost in the Quantum Realm decades before the events of Ant-Man. But by the following summer, Evangeline Lilly‘s Hope van Dyne will follow in her mother’s footsteps in Ant-Man and the Wasp. A few weeks ago, Lilly posted the first peak at her new Wasp costume from the movie. But today, we’ve got a much better look at Hope’s elaborated superhero costume!
Join host and Microverse explorer, Jessica Chobot, as she analyzes every tiny detail of the new Wasp costume. You may remember that the Wasp costume spotted in the mid-credits sequence of Ant-Man had short sleeves and a gold design on the front that appeared to be very much in line with Janet’s comic book outfits. Hope’s Wasp costume has had some major changes, including the loss of the gold and the transition to a full body suit that looks similar to Ant-Man’s costume. But her helmet retains a nod to the Wasp’s comic book origins by featuring dual points that resemble antennae.
The plot of this film is still mainly under wraps, and it’s vague whether it takes place before or after Avengers: Infinity War. We are sure that Lilly will suit up again for the currently untitled Avengers flick that will be released in 2019.
