The first Avengers Infinity War trailer is now online and it’s packed to the gills with a ton of new developments for the MCU.
Thanos (played by Josh Brolin) has finally showed up in fiery action, Vision (Paul Bettany) sparks a romance with Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), and Tony (Robert Downey Jr.) is bringing back the Hulkbuster. With six months to go until the film’s release, all two minutes and 24 seconds will most likely be picked apart endlessly until May 4, or at least until we get another trailer. It would take a normal person to infinity just to comb through all of its details, but we’re going to do our best to provide a rundown of the best Easter eggs and important details we could divine from the preview.
Check out our list and see how many Easter eggs you were able to pick out.
Nick Fury’s original Avengers monologue
“There was an idea. To reunite a group of remarkable folks. To prove if we could become something more. So when they needed us, we could fight the battles that they never could.” The trailer’s opening narration is a callback to the first Avengers when Sam Jackson whipped the heroes into a unified team after the “death” of Phil Coulson. However, the monologue has more scope this time around and even a note of irony. With Thanos battling all these characters with the Infinity Stones in his hands, the words ring a bit hollow somehow.
Hulk falling out of the sky
Yet another reference to The Avengers when the Hulk was dropped from the S.H.I.E.L.D. aircraft carrier. Except this time, Bruce won’t be welcomed back to Earth by Harry Dean Stanton, but by Doctor Strange and Wong. How Banner got back from his romps on Sakaar and Asgard in Thor Ragnarok is anyone’s guess, but by now, it looks like Infinity War will be returning some characters to their lowest personal moments before such a powerful enemy.
Vision and Scarlet Witch sitting in a tree…
This was one of the more unexpected moments of the trailer. In Captain America Civil War, Vision and Scarlet Witch had more of a brother-sister dynamic going on. Now, it looks like the MCU will be faithful to the comics when it comes to the romance between the two characters. They even got married back in 1975.
Bruce Banner reunites with the Hulkbuster (as well as Black Widow)
The full Hulkbuster is featured later in the trailer, but this scene is interesting since the arm is ripped off. Who did it? The Hulk or something more sinister? This moment also features a reunion between Banner and Black Widow, who should change her alias to Blonde Widow by now as she has different-colored hair for Infinity War. The two had a burgeoning romance in Age of Ultron and Natasha is way better at calming the Hulk than Thor is. Sun’s going down, big guy…
Alan Silvestri’s Avengers theme
We’ve heard the theme many times since 2012, the slow-measured version in this trailer carries a lot more weight. It inspires a sense of excitement and is a harbinger of the plethora of characters fighting alongside one another for the first time.
