5. Scarlet Witch And Vision’s Romance
Scarlet Witch and Vision’s romance has been hinted at for quite a while now, with her taking him down in Civil War obviously a painful moment for both, but it seems to be in full swing this time of Infinity War. It’s a relationship taken from the comics, although the big kicker here is of course that we’re seeing a human-looking Vision, rather than a red android.
Coupled with the poster pairing the two together, and it’s clear their romance is going to be a big part of both character’s arcs across at least Infinity War. What isn’t clear, though, is whether or not this is really happening, or if Vision is having a, well, vision. Vision did want to learn how to control the Mind Stone, which could lead to him being able to take human form, although events later in the trailer suggest things won’t be going so well for him. Alternatively it could be a dream sequence, especially if he were to die, or Scarlet Witch bending reality to make him appear human.
Whatever the actuality of this particular sequence, it does indicate that their romance will be key in the movie and should also form a large part of Scarlet Witch’s story going beyond Avengers 4 also (bring on a loose House of M adaptation…).
And for those further romantic entanglements, it’s also crafted for at least a hint of a reconciliation between Natasha Romanoff and Bruce Banner, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them head down that route one more time.
4. And Vision Is Getting Destroyed
Poor Vision. Just as he’s found a bit of happiness, there goes one of Thanos’ army – and that sceptre suggests we’re seeing Corvus Glaive, the right-hand man of Thanos and member of the Black Order here – trying to rip the Mind Stone out of his head.
It’s fairly obvious that things don’t look good for Vision, and it’s similarly obvious that he has to lose the Stone if Thanos is going to complete the Gauntlet (which does seem likely at this stage).
That being said, this also feels like a bit of a misdirect, in the same vein as War Machine being shot down in the Civil War trailer. He didn’t die there, and it’s unlikely Marvel are really going to spoil the death of Vision here, so while Thanos perhaps does get the Mind Stone sooner or later, it won’t be thanks to Glaive taking it from Vision’s head in this particular sequence.
3. Thanos Has At Least Two Stones
It’d be a bit much for a trailer to show Thanos with a full Gauntlet, but it also needs to hype that he gets some Stones, and two seems like a nice balance. At the same time, though, it does confirm two things.
One is that Nova Corps are screwed, because they were in charge of the purple Power Stone, which was contained in the Orb seen in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1. Now, however, it’s being contained in the Infinity Gauntlet on Thanos’ hand, so we can infer that he absolutely destroys them off-screen prior to the events of this movie (it might not fit in this movie, but could perhaps be a post-credits scene after Black Panther).
Then there’s that blue gem on his hand too, aka the Space Stone. That’s the very same one that’s in the Tesseract, and as such – as mentioned earlier – we know he gets it from Loki one way or another.
2. The Battle Of Wakanda
While Thanos is busy elsewhere, the major action set-piece is taking place on Wakanda. And it looks HUGE. Admittedly Thanos’ army is looking a little too much like the large enemy hordes we’ve seen in both other Avengers movies, but the scale is certainly impressive and the roster of superheroes involved even more so.
Just from this we can place Steve Rogers and Black Panther as being the leaders of this fight, assisted by Black Widow, Hulk, Okoye, War Machine, Falcon, and Bucky, who are up against some weird alien creatures.
Steve and T’Challa’s fights look great, as is the sight of Bucky with his machine gun, and is probably a battle for one of the Infinity Stones. Judging from the size of the fight, a good bet is that this is a quest for the last (or one of the last) one Thanos needs, while he himself is presumably busy with Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and the Guardians.
It’s also a sneaky tease for Black Panther, because it makes Wakanda an absolutely crucial location that fans will want to know about, but also spoils it a little: we see Man-Ape, aka M’Baku, lined up behind T’Challa, so their differences will be resolved by this stage.
1. Thanos Is The Main Character, And Looks Unstoppable
“In time, you will know what it’s like to lose. To feel so desperately that you’re right, yet to fail all the same. Dread it, run from it, destiny still arrives…Fun isn’t something one considers when balancing the universe. But this does put a smile on my face.”
Thanos gets the big speech of the trailer, and it helps make one thing clear: he really is the main character. While all the other heroes will have crucial moments, the baddie becomes the center of Infinity War. And he also looks unstoppable.
Even with just two Infinity Stones (as far as we know) he’s capable of destroying both Spider Man and Iron Man, and it’s going to be very difficult for any number of heroes to stop him should he get all the Stones. And whatever he does, Tony is rather torn up about it, which suggests he feels responsible for the hurt caused to someone (and Peter is a likely shout).
